BMI Station - RD

Role Length: Single Day

Dates: Apr 4, 2020 - Apr 4, 2020

One of the most effective ways that we fight kidney disease together is through NKF's community-based KEEP Healthy program, which screens participants around the country for kidney disease. You can help to administer kidney health checks in your area and reach more Americans at-risk. Activities may include: Supporting the registration and greeting process, aiding participants in completion of health surveys, taking Body Mass Index (BMI), height, weight, blood pressure and other readings to assess risk.

• Welcome each participant and inform them their height and weight will be measured in order to calculate their Body Mass Index (BMI)
• Able to explain what BMI is to the participant and provide general information about obesity as a risk factor for kidney disease.
• Feel comfortable asking participants to remove their shoes, in order to obtain the best possible height and weight measurements.
• Place paper towel sheet on both the scale and stadiometer for sanitary proposes.
• Place sheets in garbage after each participant’s measurements are completed.
• Document height measurement legibly in feet and inches, on the KEEP Healthy Participant Information and Results Card, and on the second page of the KEEP Healthy Survey.
• Document the weight measurement legible in pounds, on the KEEP Healthy Participant Information and Results Card, and on the second page of the KEEP Healthy Survey.
• Calculate the participant’s BMI, using a BMI conversion table (or BMI wheel) and document the BMI results on the KEEP Healthy Participant Information and Results Card, and the second page of the KEEP Healthy Survey.
• Document BMI legibly on the KEEP Healthy Participant Information and Results Card, and on the second page of the KEEP Healthy Survey.
NOTE: If participant’s BMI is 30 or above, place a check next to the appropriate box on the list of risk factors on the KEEP Healthy Participant Information and Results card.
Direct Participant to the next station to have their blood pressure measured.
