Dear Friend of the National Kidney Foundation:
World Kidney Day was March 13... Do you know how your kidneys are? So many Americans have no idea, including those with high blood pressure and diabetes who are at greatest risk for kidney disease.
That's what I wanted to talk to you about today — kidneys and how you can help by making a donation to support early detection and educational programs for people whose kidneys aren't working too well but don't know they have a problem. I was one of those people who had kidney disease and didn't know it. I was lucky enough to receive the greatest gift — a kidney lovingly donated by my wife, Ann.
Since Ann and I became spokespeople for the National Kidney Foundation, I've become aware of all the wonderful progress that is being made, but there is certainly much more that needs to be done to help the NKF reach out to the 26 million Americans with chronic kidney disease and the nearly 100,000 on the national waiting list for lifesaving organs.
That's why — to honor World Kidney Day — I'm writing to ask that you please consider making a contribution that will bolster the extraordinary efforts local NKF offices are making to reach Americans with kidney disease in communities across the country. Your gift of $25, $50, $100 or more will help us offer free kidney screenings for those at risk as well as vital programs in patient services, organ donation, advocacy and education. Ah, yes, and for those of you more adept at these things than I, you can contribute online, right now by clicking here.
And if you have high blood pressure, diabetes or a family history of kidney disease, take advantage of NKF's free screenings around the country on World Kidney Day and throughout the year. Click here for the schedule.
Wishing you a happy World Kidney Day and the blessing of good health.
Sincerely,
George Lopez
