Research

The National Kidney Foundation budget for the current fiscal year includes almost $1 million for research awards to investigators studying the causes of and treatment for kidney disease. For a complete list of research currently being supported, please click here (PDF 14KB). However, because of budgetary constraints, NKF will not be accepting applications for new fellowships or grants until further notice.

Since 1968, the NKF has been awarding research grants to doctors, scientists and researchers dedicated to finding new ways to prevent and treat kidney disease. Over the past 43 years, the NKF has provided nearly $90 million and more than 1,000 individual grants.

The studies supported by the NKF research awards and grants explore new insights in NKF’s major areas of research focus: chronic kidney disease (CKD); dialysis and transplantation; diseases that accompany CKD, including diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease; and pediatric kidney disease. The studies also investigate research questions identified by the NKF clinical practice guideline development program, Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQITM).
