The Nephrology Hero's Award is given to an NKF-CAPP member who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to their profession, following in the footsteps of Tim Poole. (Formerly the Tim Poole Award)

Dr. Mead is an associate professor of nursing at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and the chief nurse practitioner and assistant medical director at Shifa Nephrology Associates in Chicago, IL. He holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from DePaul University and a Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from Kent State University. His nurse practitioner training was done through the University of Pennsylvania (Acute Care) and the University of Cincinnati (Primary Care). He holds board certifications as an Adult-Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNPC-AG), an Adult-Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (AGNP-C), Nephrology Nurse Practitioner (CNN-NP), and in healthcare simulation (CHSE). Recently he was granted GStat status from the American Statistical Association as an intro level biostatistician. Clinical and research expertise includes nephrology, fluid and electrolyte pathology and management, geriatrics, clinical epidemiology, and applied biostatistical methods.
