For more than 35 years, Lisa Dumouchel, ANP-BC, has built her career around two enduring passions: caring for people living with kidney disease and sharing knowledge with patients, families, students, and colleagues. Drawn to nephrology early in her nursing career in Montreal, Canada, she has found meaning in guiding patients through challenging and life-changing decisions.
Ms. Dumouchel began her nephrology nursing career in Montreal in 1987 before joining Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 1994. She became a Nurse Practitioner in the BIDMC Division of Nephrology in 2005 and has since cared for patients across the spectrum of kidney disease, from early chronic kidney disease through dialysis and transplantation.
Education has been a defining thread throughout her career—from teaching nurse practitioner students at her alma mater, Simmons University, and mentoring future clinicians to empowering patients and families to understand their treatment options and make informed decisions.
A trusted resource in peritoneal dialysis and CKD management, she also serves as a principal resource for the CKD anemia clinic and protocol development. Her commitment to education extends internationally through dialysis training in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and through presentations at Grand Rounds, National Kidney Foundation conferences, and nursing education programs.
Throughout her career, Ms. Dumouchel has been guided by the belief that compassionate care and education go hand in hand.
