Medical Advisory Board Distinguished Service Award

This award has been established to recognize an individual for their educational activities and community service in promoting the mission of the National Kidney Foundation on a local level. The 2021 recipient is Shubha Ahya, MD

Shubha Ahya, MDShubha Ahya, MD is a Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a clinical nephrologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. She is the Chairperson of the Professional Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois (NKFI). She helps plan NKFI’s professional programming including Citywide Grand Rounds and the annual Controversies in Nephrology, in which academic fellowship programs take a pro/con view to debate relevant topics. Dr. Ahya has volunteered to care for patients and/or teach in India, Bolivia, Rwanda, and Vietnam. Dr. Ahya also volunteers locally with NKFI’s KidneyMobile which provides screening for kidney disease and its risk factors in Illinois communities.
