KEEP Healthy

Recipe for Holiday Eggnog

The holiday season is in full swing, and with it come lots of temptations… an abundance of sweet and savory foods at school and office parties, neighborhood and family gatherings and other celebrations. Holidays are a time to celebrate and treat yourself, however, that doesn’t always have to mean unhealthy food choices. With a little planning and smart food selections, you can enjoy the holiday festivities without the unwanted weight gain or other poor health impact. Remember to focus on eating healthy and getting enough physical activity along with lots of fun!

Tips to keep in mind during holiday parties:

  • Limit sodas, alcohol and other high calorie beverages. Drink plenty of water!
  • Stock up on healthy snacks like vegetables with hummus dip, low fat cottage cheese and fruit, and low fat yogurt. Snack before a get together to avoid overeating once you’re there.
  • Beware of the buffet! Keep portions small and avoid fried appetizers, cheese cubes, bacon wrapped appetizers, high calorie punch, cookies and other rich desserts.
  • Bring a low calorie dish to share!
