Below are some great resources to help fill your time during the long days of summer.

  • Council Award nominations are due 7/31/2022 – Spring Clinical Meetings will be in April 2023 at Austin, TX. This is the time to recognize your renal professionals by nominating them for an NKF Council Award. There are awards categories for social works, dietitians, nurses, technicians and advanced practice providers. There are over twenty possible awards, see link for details and criteria.
  • New GFR equation – The CKD-EPI Creatinine Equation (2021) is a new race-free way to diagnose kidney disease. This new equation has already been adapted by major clinical laboratories. Follow the link for additional information about this calculation and to read more about eGFR calculator.
  • Living Donor Protection Act – In 2021, over forty US Senators sponsored a bill to support living organ donors. This bill will prohibit insurance carriers from discriminating against living organ donors. Specifically, they may not deny or cancel coverage and also must provide employee job-protection while one recovers from organ-donation surgery. In addition, the Department of Health and Human Services will update their education material about the benefits of live organ donation and insurance access.  To follow the progress of this bill into law, visit congress.gov.
  • CKD Dietitian Database – promote your pre-dialysis CKD nutrition practice by being listed on the CKD Dietitian Database. This is a resource for patients who seek nutrition consultation. To get started, fill out this application form.

Hope everyone has a restful summer break.
