NKF Announces New Partnership with Horizon Therapeutics PLC

Horizon Becomes National Corporate Partner of NKF Konica Minolta Golf Classic

February 17, 2022, New York, NY —  The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) announces a new partnership with Horizon Therapeutics plc in its efforts to raise funds for the advancement of kidney health and advocating for people with kidney disease.

Horizon has signed on as a National Corporate Partner for the NKF Konica Minolta Golf Classic series for 2022. The partnership with Horizon injects new funding into the operations of all the events, which will reduce costs, and is expected to increase revenue generated that will go toward NKF’s kidney health awareness and patient support efforts.

The Golf Classic is a year-long event with local tournaments of amateur golfers playing in 30 locations around the country. Winners in the qualifying round play for spots in the January 12-25, 2023 championship tournament at California’s famed Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course, and The Links at Spanish Bay.

“This partnership will streamline our efforts to operate and promote this important event,” said NKF Chief Executive Officer Kevin Longino, a kidney transplant recipient. “Not only does this annual competition lead to some incredible golf by amateurs from around the country, but it spreads the message that 33 percent of adults in America are at risk of developing kidney disease. We can’t thank Horizon enough for signing onto this critical public health effort.”

“We have learned over the years that the most impactful programs and initiatives are born out of the true experience of those living with the disease and their families,” said Matt Flesch, vice president of communications and patient advocacy, Horizon. “We are honored to be a part of this very important fundraising effort and amateur golf tournament with the National Kidney Foundation. Through this year-long event, we can help ensure everyone knows the importance of getting tested for kidney disease. Awareness is the first step to kidney health.”

In addition to their National Corporate Partnership with the NKF Konica Minolta Golf Classic program, Horizon is also a sponsor of the NKF Kidney Walks in 2022. Kidney Walks are held in dozens of communities in the United States every year. Millions of dollars are raised, and millions of people have been reached in NKF’s efforts to increase awareness about kidney disease and the importance for all adults to take kidney health seriously.

“Are You the 33%™” is NKF’s national campaign to spread the word that 1 in 3 people are at risk and 37 million adults in America have kidney disease, but 90 percent of them don’t know it.

The NKF Konica Minolta Golf Classic and the NKF Kidney Walks are important platforms to reach those people and remind them to get tested for this potentially deadly disease. NKF has a quick online quiz that takes just a minute to learn if you could be part of the 33 percent. Go to MinuteForYourKidneys.org to learn if you are at risk and what you should do next if you are.

The Horizon partnership, like the ongoing partnership with Konica Minolta, takes NKF’s efforts to the next level in its work to reach more people and fulfill its mission.
