National Kidney Foundation Announces Hotel Partnership to Support Transplant Patients and Families

Washington, DC pilot offers discounted accommodations and supports NKF programs

(NEW YORK CITY, NY - November 4, 2026) - The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) today announced a year-long pilot program with the Royal Sonesta Washington, DC Dupont Circle, Royal Sonesta Capitol Hill and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital to support transplant recipients, donors and their families traveling to Washington, DC for treatment.

Through the relationship, eligible guests can save 15% on accommodations at the Royal Sonesta Washington, DC Dupont Circle and Royal Sonesta Capitol Hill using the code 4KIDNEYS. In addition, 5% of every qualifying booking is donated to NKF, helping fund programs and services for kidney patients and their families.

“We are delighted to partner with Royal Sonesta Washington, DC Dupont Circle and Royal Sonesta Capitol Hill. Too many patients and families face significant practical and financial burdens as they navigate the path to kidney transplantation,” said Marc Hurlbert, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of the National Kidney Foundation. “This campaign will help make travel for transplant-related care more manageable while giving Royal Sonesta guests an opportunity to support our work on behalf of kidney patients, living donors and their families.”

The pilot is part of NKF’s Lives Can’t Wait campaign, which works to increase awareness of organ donation, support patients and living donors, and advocate for greater access to transplantation. Currently there are about 90,000 people on the waitlist for a kidney transplant.

About Kidney Disease
In the United States, more than 37 million adults are estimated to have kidney disease, also known as chronic kidney disease (CKD)—and approximately 90 percent don’t know they have it. About 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. are at risk for kidney disease. Risk factors for kidney disease include: diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and family history. People of Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian American, or Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander descent are at increased risk for developing the disease. Black or African American people are about four times as likely as White people to have kidney failure. Hispanics experience kidney failure at about double the rate of White people.

About the National Kidney Foundation
