Project ECHO® - Waitlist Management in California

The Project ECHO: Waitlist Management in California is a monthly virtual learning collaborative designed to support dialysis and transplant professionals in improving access to kidney transplantation for patients with kidney failure. Through expert-led presentations, case-based learning, and interactive discussion, participants will explore practical strategies to navigate transplant referral and evaluation processes, address financial and insurance barriers, optimize transplant opportunities, and support patients throughout their transplant journey. The program emphasizes collaboration between dialysis facilities and transplant centers to improve waitlisting outcomes and expand access to life-saving kidney transplantation across California.

Program Details

  • Engaging monthly 60-minute virtual learning sessions 
  • Expert-led presentations on kidney transplantation and waitlist management.
  • Case-based learning with interactive discussion and multidisciplinary Hub Team feedback.
  • Practical strategies and resources to support patients throughout the transplant journey.
  • Get involved by presenting a case from your own center or practice, followed by group discussion and recommendations from the HUB Committee.

 

Learning Objectives

By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify strategies to improve access to kidney transplantation.
  2. Apply practical approaches to address barriers to transplantation.
  3. Implement patient-centered communication and care coordination techniques.

     

Program begins August 2026 and will feature 9 virtual education sessions.

Curriculum Topics

All sessions will focus on and emphasize the critical role of communication and collaboration between dialysis and transplant teams. Topics include:

  • The Transplant Process: Referral, Evaluation, and Waitlisting
  • Fast Track Transplantation and Special Populations
  • Insurance Navigation, Financial Barriers, and Access to Care
  • Increasing Access to Kidney Transplantation
  • Social Support, Adherence, and Psychosocial Considerations
  • Living Donation and Paired Kidney Exchange
     

Earn Credit

All sessions are accredited by the National Kidney Foundation for 1.0 CE/CME. Credits are available for:

  • Technicians
  • Social workers
  • Dietitians
  • Transplant Coordinators
