Our Mission

The National Kidney Foundation is revolutionizing the fight to save lives by eliminating preventable kidney disease, accelerating innovation for the dignity of the patient experience, and dismantling structural inequities in kidney care, dialysis and transplantation.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion For All (DEI 4A)

At the heart of our mission lies our greatest strength: the rich tapestry of human experience that each employee in our organization brings to work every day to fight kidney disease.

Our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion For All (DEI 4A) is fundamental to our success. It drives innovation and excellence through the power of different backgrounds and ideas. Together, we build a stronger and more resilient National Kidney Foundation.

DEI 4A is not a standalone program or initiative. It is work grounded in legally sound and mission-driven business practices. It is the essence of who we are and embedded across all people practice areas—with no greater emphasis on any demographic as more important than another.

We recognize that true diversity encompasses a full spectrum of differences—from backgrounds to cognitive styles and ways of thinking.

Equity stands as our cornerstone principle: ensuring equal access to opportunities and resources for all employees and potential employees. We are committed to removing barriers, creating accessible pathways to employment at NKF, and fostering an environment where everyone can thrive and contribute to their fullest potential. We measure progress through empirical data—stay interviews, exit interviews, turnover and engagement surveys are among these data.

Inclusion is, and must be, our daily practice. Our organizational values guide us in our work to cultivate a workplace where all employees feel respected and empowered to contribute. Through active engagement across all segments of our workforce and the celebration of diverse viewpoints—to name a few—we strive to create a culture of belonging that energizes our workforce and drives sustainable business success.

Kevin Longino

"Diversity is fundamental to the success of the National Kidney Foundation. Our leadership works daily to guide teams using our Culture Values and informed DEI perspectives. We recognize our responsibility to maintain environments where all people feel they belong. We continue to work to create environments where all can have adequate access within the kidney health space. It is our responsibility to be a beacon to those affected by kidney disease and it starts with our people"

Tracy McKibben Headshot
Board Chair

Tracy McKibben

"We’ve worked diligently to get an accurate view of where we are and set a challenge and path for where we want to go. As Chair of NKF I look at this as an opportunity to help shape and guide the work of NKF in promoting health equity and increasing transplantation. It is important that we, at NKF, internalize and model the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Board fully supports the commitment of resources to ensure DEI is at the core of our mission, understanding that only by investing in the common goal of equity will we achieve real progress."
