Products for Children with Enuresis and Daytime Urinary Incontinence

The products listed here are designed for children with bedwetting (enuresis) or daytime bladder control problems (incontinence or wetting). Some products, such as the bedwetting alarms, are designed to help you child overcome enuresis, while others are designed to contain urine without wetting clothing or allowing any odor so your child can participate in social activities such as day trips or sleep overs without the embarrassment of urine leakage. Although these products are helpful if your child has enuresis or daytime bladder control problems, they do not cure these problems and they do not substitute for seeing the doctor for treatment.

Absorbent Disposable and/or Reuseable Products

There are many type of diapers for infants and toddlers, and absorbent underpants for children 3-5 years of age. There are also products that can be found for the school aged child with enuresis (bedwetting) or daytime bladder control problems (incontinence). However, more and more products are becoming available. Many of these products can be obtained through local or regional medical supply companies. Although these products are helpful if your child has enuresis or daytime bladder control problems, they do not cure enuresis or daytime wetting and they do not substitute for seeing the doctor for treatment. Ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist for further information.

Disposable Products

These products are able to absorb large volumes of urine followed by easy disposal in trash receptacle (these products should not be flushed). They are often used when traveling with a child or sleepovers when a disposable product is more convenient. Their primary disadvantage is cost.

Reusable Products

These products are cost effective as compared to disposable pants or absorbent underpants and can be washed multiple times. One piece briefs are designed for low to medium volume daytime wetting and for low volume bed wetting. Two piece systems, combining a waterproof liner and absorbent cotton liner or under-pant, are preferred for higher volume day or nighttime wetting.

Sleeping Bag Liner

Sleeping bag liners might be difficult to find, but are available. This washable liner has a waterproof base and breathable top with absorbent, poly-cotton inner liner.
