National Kidney Foundation Spring Clinical Meetings 2022 Round-Up

We want to give a special shoutout to the NKF’s Program Committees for their incredible work. None of this would have been possible without you. 

This year's Spring Clinical Meetings (SCM) went off with a bang. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as nephrology healthcare professionals from around the country reunited after two years. For many, this event not only provides the most up-to-date kidney practices and research, but it's also a time to connect with friends and admired colleagues.  

"It was wonderful to see old colleagues and to meet new ones. I loved seeing so many trainees at the meeting - not just fellows, but residents too," said SCM22 Program Chair Tara Chang. "The mood throughout the conference was upbeat and positive - I think folks were excited to finally be able to connect in person again and about all the new initiatives aimed at promoting kidney health.”

Diversity and inclusion were at the forefront of this year's meeting. The keynote speaker, Dr. David R. Williams, delivered 'Understanding and Effectively Addressing Inequities in Health,' a powerful speech that left the audience with a compelling message- Health care providers have the power to help lower health inequity.

Dr. Williams's presentation gives participants the ability to:

• Address how socioeconomic status and racial or ethnic status affect health.
• Identify ways to enhance health care to improve the patient experience.
• Determine possible interventions on social factors such as early childhood education, neighborhood and housing conditions, and employment opportunities that can lead to improvements in health.

“It was great to attend NKF SCM 22 in person! The scientific program was rich, the sessions well attended, and there was a lot of excitement in the air!” said incoming chair member Bernard Jaar, MD, MPH. “For me, one of the highlights of the meeting was the amazing and inspiring talk by our Keynote Speaker Dr. David Williams on understanding and effectively addressing inequalities in health.”
