How Do I Donate My Car to Charity?

Maybe you’ve seen the billboards, heard the ads, or read about it on the internet and now you’re wondering: how do I donate my car to charity? Well, it’s as simple as 1, 2, 3!

The first step is to call Kidney Cars at 800.488.CARS (2277) and tell us you have a car you’d like to donate to the National Kidney Foundation. Or you can visit our donation website here: https://www.kidney.org/support/kidneycars and fill out the donation form.

Second, schedule a time with Kidney Cars to come pick up your car. You get to set the time that works best with your calendar.

Last, the Kidney Cars experts will pick up your car and all the necessary paperwork from you. From there, the car will be sold and the proceeds will go to the National Kidney Foundation to support research, support for kidney patients, and continuing support for kidney donation legislation and services.

Things to Know

Here are some things to keep in mind when donating your car:

  • You can donate any car you have a title to, running or not.
  • You can donate cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles, boats, dirt bikes, motocross motorcycles,    ATVs, construction equipment, farm equipment (with serial number), and personal watercraft.
  • If you can’t find the title to your vehicle but still want to donate it, call the donation hotline and they will help you to get a replacement title.
  • Tax deductions are specific to each vehicle and depend upon individual sale price of the vehicle. You will need to contact the IRS to determine if your car is deductible. Kidney cars will send you a receipt of the sale price for tax purposes

Why Donate?

Charitable donations account for a large percentage of the money that the Kidney Foundation uses to promote research and support for a cure and improved quality of life for kidney disease patients. Your donation makes a difference for millions of patients around the country. Research is ongoing to find a cure for kidney disease, support for legislation that makes living organ donation easier continues, and education for kidney disease patients is made available. These measures help to make life better for those who struggle with this life-threatening disease.

Your generosity is making a difference. Please donate today.
