Creating a Safe Space: Transplant Recipients and Living Donors Find Comfort on Facebook

NEW—online support system gives patients a platform to connect with each other and access NKF resources.

Good health care is a team effort — especially for transplant recipients. This January, NKF launched its first Facebook group for users who have undergone or will soon undergo a kidney transplant called the NKF Transplant Community.

This private group will give patients and family members an outlet to share experiences, ask questions about the transplant process, and facilitate discussions among the members. It will also provide access to NKF’s transplant-based resources, including THE BIG ASK: THE BIG GIVE, a comprehensive set of programs designed to increase living donation and transplantation. In contrast to our Health Unlocked Transplant community which focuses on more direct support, the Facebook group will focus on allowing similar members of the transplant community to share their experiences and knowledge with one another. The new group will also help NKF to identify additional areas of need based on patient feedback and discussion—to better address the concerns of those we serve.

If you’re a kidney transplant recipient or living donor, we encourage you to share your stories, tips, and support with our NKF Transplant Community: Facebook.com/Groups
