Kidney Walk

Connecticut Kidney Walk

Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Hubbard Park, Meriden

On October 1, 2023 the Connecticut Kidney Walk took place in Hubbard Park, and what a terrific day it was. With 300 walkers in attendance, together we built hope for a future without suffering—for every person in this fight. With your continued participation and contributions, you’ll let others know they’re not alone.

Camp Sunshine

The National Kidney Foundation serving Connecticut has been involved with Camp Sunshine, which provides retreats combining respite, recreation and support, while enabling hope and promoting joy, for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families through the various stages of a child’s illness, for over 10 years. Through our Gala years ago, we raised money to cover a week at Camp Sunshine for pediatric patients and their families indefinitely. The Pediatric nephrology groups at Hartford Transplant and Yale New Haven Transplant notify the families about these opportunities every Summer! This year we received beautiful notes of thanks from the families who attended!

Your Connecticut Advocates and other Kidney Volunteers are working tirelessly new legislation to help Living Donors. A study in 2015, showed that approximately 25% of Kidney Donors experienced some form of discrimination when they sought to obtain or modify life or health insurance. The Living Donor Protection Act for Connecticut would protect the Living Donor from these adverse actions. By removing this barrier to donation, the supply of kidneys will increase and reduce the wait time for those waiting on the Transplant list. It's easy to make a difference! Become an advocate and learn how to get involved with legislation relating to kidney disease, transplantation and organ donation.
