Dr. Matthew Sinclair is originally from Long Island, New York, where he attended Stony Brook University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Dr. Sinclair then went on to earn his medical degree from Howard University in Washington, DC. He returned to New York to complete his residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. In 2018, Dr. Sinclair matched into nephrology fellowship at the Duke University School of Medicine, during which time he was also selected to serve as a fellow at the Duke Clinical Research Institute. Additionally, having developed an interest in clinical interest and wanting to further his skills and knowledge, Dr. Sinclair enrolled in the Clinical Research Training Program at the Duke University School of Medicine, through which he earned a Master of Health Sciences Degree in Clinical Research. After finishing his fellowship, Dr. Sinclair joined the faculty at the Duke University School of Medicine and Duke Clinical Research Institute, where he works as a physician-scientist. Dr. Sinclair’s research focuses on reducing the progression of chronic kidney disease among racial and ethnic minorities, with a specific focus on Hispanics & Latinos, both by enhancing recognition of chronic kidney disease risk factors among individuals in the community and developing interventions to optimize evidence-based screening and therapy provision for patients with or at risk for chronic kidney disease. In addition to his research and advocacy work, Dr. Sinclair greatly values his time working with patients as a nephrologist at both Duke University Hospital and the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center. When not at work, Dr. Sinclair enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and four-year old son.
